Jean-Paul Laenen Estate

"Le besoin de maîtriser le contenu et la forme, de les matérialiser, les rendre tangibles, d'y extraire l’espace dans un développement continuel, me ramène à la sculpture."

Jean-Paul Laenen (1931 - 2012) was a Belgian Sculptor working with a variety of different materials and techniques throughout his carrier, which extended from the early fifties to the day of his death in 2012. From the seventies onwards, Laenen increasingly dedicated his practice to the realm of public space, primarily focussing on public commissions and collaborations with architects and urbanists.

He was one of the founding members of Krokus, ‘working group for the rehabilitation of the urban environment’.

Following his death in 2012, the management of his estate was taken up by his daughter, Sylvie Laenen, and granddaughter, Nina Janssen. The objective is twofold; encompassing both the preservation, visibility, and circulation of the works, as well as the preservation and activation of his studio/house in both Mechelen/Malines and Vaucluse.
